Does the Color Matter?

So, this is post number three for today.
Can color change the meaning of a work of art?

Faith Ringgold is an African American artist that has been working for 35 years. She is known most for her painted story quilts. Here is an example of one:

The Flag Is Bleeding #2


The message of this artwork would not be as strong, I feel, if the blue was sliding down the flag and down the chest of the woman holding her children close. The bleeding of the flag may represent the blood, sweat, and tears that African Americans and their ancestors put into this country.
