Some will use money only to purchase what they need. But leave it to artist to find a new and exciting way to look at what my mother likes to call "green construction paper". Oragami figures that are made are simply amazing in and of themselves, but the detail that can be added because of the money used is simply exciting.

Group Project
So even though our group project was cancelled, I still sketched up a little something. Now, I know I'm not great, nor even decent, but it was required of us. :)

Grids Aren't Just For Mathletes
Hey Blogger World!
I know I haven't been posting lately. Things have just been hectic. So, most of these post will be pretty short (I know...Sad Day), but once I'm caught up the post will be longer.
This post is dedicated to the Grid. Now, most know what a grid is.

Joseph Cornell...Uh, Who is That?
It's time for another update Blogger World.
Today is a on a fellow named Joseph Cornell. Cornell was an American artist and sculptor known best for his assemblage, artistic composition made from found odds and ends, pieces. The boxes are usual simple with a glass pane front, nothing too fancy, and are usually interactive and meant to be handled.
So, I searched and searched for a Joseph Cornell box that caught my attention and I came up with...
The creepiest box that I have ever seen. This is Cornell's Bebe Marie. Honestly, this is one of the creepiest things that I've seen in a while. The girl is peaking through the twigs and sticks almost like a peeping tom (Have to wonder who she was suppose to be spying on). It also reminds me of Big Baby from Toy Story 3, minus the lazy eye.

Does the Color Matter?
So, this is post number three for today.
Can color change the meaning of a work of art?
Faith Ringgold is an African American artist that has been working for 35 years. She is known most for her painted story quilts. Here is an example of one:

The Flag Is Bleeding #2
The message of this artwork would not be as strong, I feel, if the blue was sliding down the flag and down the chest of the woman holding her children close. The bleeding of the flag may represent the blood, sweat, and tears that African Americans and their ancestors put into this country.
This is all for today. Possibly...we'll see.
3OH!3

Hearing is Seeing...Or Something Like That
Hey People!
So I'm back for the second post of the day. Probably not the last (I have a lot of catching up to do).Synesthesia, according to Dictionary.com, is "a sensation produced in one modality when a stimulus is applied to another modality". A simple example is hearing a certain sound that invokes the visualization of a specific color.
During my search, I came across this piece of artwork and thought it was actually pretty cool. Its a bit chaotic, but it reminds me when there is just so much noise that you can't distinguish what is coming from where or what the sound even is. Like in the school cafeteria or the busy streets of New York, or even in the hallways of a high school during class changes.
Money, Money, Money!
I'm Back!
So, we all really like money, or at least most of us do. Today, I was asked to pick a currency with an interesting design. Through my search, I came across something that was pretty interesting to me. It was an article on MSN Money that talked about revamping the US dollar. Two of the entries that caught my eye (most of them were pretty creative, some more than others). The first one depicts what the artist called "strong photographic history that we have in the US". I actually agree with this. Most people know the picture of Martin Luther King Jr giving one of his speeches and of our President Barack Obama. The only thing I was confused about was the picture of Ice Cube on the dollar bill. NO offense to him, but I'm not sure if he belongs on the currency. The second one doesn't bare a strong statement, but still makes one. It was the winner of the design contest. There was a little uproar about President Obama taking the place of 1st president George Washington. However, I believe what he accomplished was pretty amazing and ground-breaking for the US and deserves a place on our currency.
So that's it for today Blogger World. Ta-Ta for Now.

That forms what?
Hello Blogger World.
I'm back again! This week is going to be absolutely horrid because it is yes...Midterms. The week that professors torture us before spring break. I have one midterm out of the way. Wasn't too bad (it was Anthropology). So, now I just have two more to go and I'm home free! Anyway...on to the artwork.
Chuck close is a talented painter that was born in 1940 in Monroe, Washington. He is known for his close up paintings of the human face.

His intricate technique is amazing to me. To be able to create an image that is most recognizable to humans (the face), out of blotches of color. He uses a grid system, working with one square at a time until his work is complete. He layers the colors until he has the outcome that he wanted. In class, we were able to watch a film that showed his work from beginning to end.Starting with a larger than life Polaroid and ending with a painting such as the one above.
This is all for now. If you want to see more of this work, type "Chuck Close Paintings" into the Google search bar.

Can You Repeat That Please?
I'm Back!
That was easy. Hmmm, I'll do another one later today. Time for lunch now!
Two in one day, I know I know, hold your applause please...Ha, anyway, time for another addition to this blog. Nothing has changed since, oh say five minutes ago, other than my professor cancelled class (a bit under the weather =| ). Hope that nothing is going around because spring break is coming up and being sick over spring break is a NO GO! On to the principle of today though...
Repetition of Form means exactly what it says, pretty self-explanatory.

Outside
Hello Blogger World.
So, for the past couple of weeks it has been absolutely beautiful outside. Sunshine, light breeze, perfect spring weather even though it's the middle of February. I'm okay with that, especially since baseball has started up for school (Let's Go Bears!). Enough about me and my life and on with the art....
Andy Goldsworthy is a British artist that uses only natural materials. Twigs, leaves, stones, clay, mud, stuff like that.

This is one of pieces, which I believe is called "The Stone River", but I'm not too sure. I think this is absolutely amazing. The stone is sandstone, coming from buildings that toppled during some earthquake in the land. The wall is free-standing ( I think that's the right term for it). Anyway, nothing is holding it up, its "sculpted" in a way that it stands on its own. Most of his pieces are just temporary, but I suppose this one is here for the long run.
Well,
That's it for today...Not today, but for the moment. Still trying to catch up. =\

Little Wooden Boxes
I'm back Blogger World!
Sorry that I'm a bit behind on my post. Lots of test and papers in the past couple of weeks. So, today is the day to catch up.
Our focus is Louise Nevelson, an American artist with a focus in sculpture. She was or still is known for her wood assemblages, taking what most would call junk and turning them into pieces pleasing to the eye.
This piece, Nightscape IV, offers a large amount of detail and intricacies. I'm impressed by how much is going on within the piece, but how it's not overwhelming to the eye.
Not much more to say about this piece, so on to the next one.

Creepy, But Interesting
Its that time again.
I know I'm about a week, if not more, late. Had other work to do this week and other classes to study for. So, the blog got put on the back burner. I'm back now though, and that's all that matters.
Today, we're focusing on Lucas Samaras. He is known as an American photographer. He is most recognized for his self image transformations and mutilations. However, most of his early work consisted of twine, glitter, straight pins, and nails collected into boxes.
I'm not too sure what this box is composed of, but I feel that its a very interesting piece. The way that lips and a mustached are formed from what I believe to be pinheads is truly impressive. The color scheme used also seems to bring some sort of unity to the piece (box) as a whole.
If you want to know more about him, just click here.
Until Next Time Loves...

Why Does This Matter Again?
Hello Blogger World!
I'm back for another round.
Today is about design. Well, about types of design. In a previous post, I listed my definition of design. But for a mini recap, "Design according to Wikipedia (since we don't use dictionaries or anything credible like that anymore) "implies a conscious effort to create something that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. For example, a graphic artist may design an advertisement poster. This person's job is to communicate the advertisement message (functional aspect) and to make it look good (aesthetically pleasing).""
Now that we're all caught up, time to talk about actual types of design. Well, I'm actually going to only focus on three: Interior Design, Makeup Design, Culinary Design.
So, I went to PeachWave on a trip with my friends (Greshma, Jasmine, and Darlene. Love You Guys) and we had tons of fun. But, this place as amazing. One of the best things of frozen yogurt I've had in a while and I decided to take a picture....
And I was like "Hey, this is pleasing to the eye and I designed it and its edible. So why not post it to my blog!" Bam and we have culinary design...
Interior design is when creativity and innovative techniques are brought together to improve the aesthetics within a structure (say a house or an office building).

Now this is what I call hot or amazing, or just plain sexy (in an interior design type of way).
Most wouldn't consider makeup as a type of design. However, most of the artist put just as much effort and thought into their makeup concepts.
Okay, so most normal people wouldn't wear this on the daily basis (or EVER), but for an ad campaign this is just amazing. Like who would think to model makeup off of a peacock(or the essence of a peacock), well this artist would.
So, that's all for now. I hope this wasn't too painful for all of you because this took me over a week and a half to do...And it was our first assignment so yeah....Hope you enjoyed this installment of the Jasmine Show!!

Who Cares How It Looks?
I'm back again Blogger World!
Its that time again. This week we're working on form and content. Now, some would say "Form and Content...Who cares?" But, apparently it matters. Content is what will be presented. Form is how will it be presented. To get a certain point across, it matters how one portrays what they want to be said.
So, the creator of this billboard had a vision...
I'm not sure what that vision was, but he/she had a vision. So, the form is obviously a billboard, with "ENDANGERED SPECIES" in big, bold, eye-catching lettering. The content is trying to say that...well I'm not too sure what he/she is trying to say. What I see is that black children are supposedly a dying breed and will die out soon because all, if not most, of them are being aborted. If they were trying to invoke some sort of emotion, they got it. There has been plenty of uproar about this billboard, most offended by it. But, Hey! They have the right to post what they want...they just have to be ready for the consequences as well.
That's all for now...Up next (What should've been first), Types of design.

Definitions Aren't Fun
Hello Blogger World!
So, this is my first post of the semester. Let me start out by explaining that I'm NOT an art major, hence the title of the blog. I wanted a small break from the sciences this semester and that is what I got. However, I absolutely love most art and appreciate it when I can. Be it sculpture, animation, painting, whatever, each piece has its own story.
Anyway...
My art professor has us doing weekly/daily post. Different topics all pertaining to art. So today is Friday and even though I should probably do the Wednesday post...I don't feel like it right now and I feel like this one is a whole lot easier. Like come on how hard can a definition be.
Hour and a Half later...
Design apparently isn't something that is so easily defined. I suppose it depends on the type of design that you're looking for, but searching for that is a job in and of itself.

I feel that this picture is a perfect example of the definition above. The function of this room could be to entertain guest or to just chill out with that special someone, or even have a little family game night. It doesn't hurt that this living room/den isn't bad on the eyes. I mean I would like to hang out here, maybe sleep on the couch (like most sleep deprived college students do when they get home, after eating of course).
That's all for now. I'll be back later this weekend for the next post. Woo Freakin Hoo. =]
