Why Does This Matter Again?

Hello Blogger World!
I'm back for another round.

Today is about design. Well, about types of design. In a previous post, I listed my definition of design. But for a mini recap, "Design according to Wikipedia (since we don't use dictionaries or anything credible like that anymore) "implies a conscious effort to create something that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. For example, a graphic artist may design an advertisement poster. This person's job is to communicate the advertisement message (functional aspect) and to make it look good (aesthetically pleasing).""

Now that we're all caught up, time to talk about actual types of design. Well, I'm actually going to only focus on three: Interior Design, Makeup Design, Culinary Design.

So, I went to PeachWave on a trip with my friends (Greshma, Jasmine, and Darlene. Love You Guys) and we had tons of fun. But, this place as amazing. One of the best things of frozen yogurt I've had in a while and I decided to take a picture....

And I was like "Hey, this is pleasing to the eye and I designed it and its edible. So why not post it to my blog!" Bam and we have culinary design...

Interior design is when creativity and innovative techniques are brought together to improve the aesthetics within a structure (say a house or an office building).

Now this is what I call hot or amazing, or just plain sexy (in an interior design type of way).

Most wouldn't consider makeup as a type of design. However, most of the artist put just as much effort and thought into their makeup concepts.

Okay, so most normal people wouldn't wear this on the daily basis (or EVER), but for an ad campaign this is just amazing. Like who would think to model makeup off of a peacock(or the essence of a peacock), well this artist would.

So, that's all for now. I hope this wasn't too painful for all of you because this took me over a week and a half to do...And it was our first assignment so yeah....Hope you enjoyed this installment of the Jasmine Show!!

Who Cares How It Looks?

I'm back again Blogger World!

Its that time again. This week we're working on form and content. Now, some would say "Form and Content...Who cares?" But, apparently it matters. Content is what will be presented. Form is how will it be presented. To get a certain point across, it matters how one portrays what they want to be said.

So, the creator of this billboard had a vision...

I'm not sure what that vision was, but he/she had a vision. So, the form is obviously a billboard, with "ENDANGERED SPECIES" in big, bold, eye-catching lettering. The content is trying to say that...well I'm not too sure what he/she is trying to say. What I see is that black children are supposedly a dying breed and will die out soon because all, if not most, of them are being aborted. If they were trying to invoke some sort of emotion, they got it. There has been plenty of uproar about this billboard, most offended by it. But, Hey! They have the right to post what they want...they just have to be ready for the consequences as well.

That's all for now...Up next (What should've been first), Types of design.

Definitions Aren't Fun

Hello Blogger World!

So, this is my first post of the semester. Let me start out by explaining that I'm NOT an art major, hence the title of the blog. I wanted a small break from the sciences this semester and that is what I got. However, I absolutely love most art and appreciate it when I can. Be it sculpture, animation, painting, whatever, each piece has its own story.

Anyway...

My art professor has us doing weekly/daily post. Different topics all pertaining to art. So today is Friday and even though I should probably do the Wednesday post...I don't feel like it right now and I feel like this one is a whole lot easier. Like come on how hard can a definition be.

Hour and a Half later...

Design apparently isn't something that is so easily defined. I suppose it depends on the type of design that you're looking for, but searching for that is a job in and of itself.

Design according to Wikipedia (since we don't use dictionaries or anything credible like that anymore) "implies a conscious effort to create something that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. For example, a graphic artist may design an advertisement poster. This person's job is to communicate the advertisement message (functional aspect) and to make it look good (aesthetically pleasing)."

I feel that this picture is a perfect example of the definition above. The function of this room could be to entertain guest or to just chill out with that special someone, or even have a little family game night. It doesn't hurt that this living room/den isn't bad on the eyes. I mean I would like to hang out here, maybe sleep on the couch (like most sleep deprived college students do when they get home, after eating of course).

That's all for now. I'll be back later this weekend for the next post. Woo Freakin Hoo. =]
